The Butler Did It is the design studio of Tom Butler.
Having worked in agencies at every level for many years I now run my own design practice. Focussing on digital design, brand identity and art direction for clients of all shapes and sizes. From global brands like Apple and R/GA to small startups and accross a variety of sectors from fintech to interior design.
Coming from a print based design education at the London College of Communication, over the last fifteen years my career has moved through a variety of media from print and motion to interactive design. Throughout this time the core aspects of my design sensibilities; typography, layout, balance and an eye for detail have been refined and developed.
During my time at de-constuct I created award winning work for clients such as adidas, the Barbican, Nokia, Panasonic and Established & Sons. My main client responsibility was the development of the global adidas football account, during which time I worked on several big campaigns as well as creatively developing original online content.
As Design Director at Hyper and Hypernaked I built up and managed a large team of designers and freelancers working on a wide range of outputs including digital, experiential, outdoor, branding and mobile. As well as managing the team I oversaw all the visual output of the agency for clients including Nokia, Cadbury, Danone, Virgin Atlantic and Heineken.
Whilst Head of Digital Design at M&C Saatchi London (after a merge with Lean Mean Fighting Machine) I managed a team of digital designers working on clients such as Land Rover, Unilever, Converse, Pernod Ricard and Transport for London. The output was varied from campaign websites to digital product development and my responsibilities were to manage the team and oversee the UX and design process on all digital projects.
Whatever the medium the aim of the creative process remains constant; to solve the relevant design problem with an appropriate, effective and visually elegant solution. This is something I strive to achieve in my work with a combination of craft, technical ability, enthusiasm and team work.
